چکیده

Carcinoma of the prostate is the commonest form of human carcinoma, found at autopsy in 30% of men at the age of 50 and in over 80% of men in their 90s. Worldwide, more than 650,000 men are diagnosed with the disease each year accounting for a 10th of all new male cancers. In Europe, the lifetime risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer is approximately 1 in 13. In 2006, an estimated 234,460 American men were newly diagnosed with prostate cancer, and over 30,000 died of the disease. There is a close association between recent increases in the incidence of prostate cancer and the use of transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for treating obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms due to presumed benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and more recently with serum prostatic serum antigen (PSA) testing. Whether there is a real increase in incidence or not, the number of cases of prostate cancer will rise further as the population at risk (older men) grows with lengthening of life expectancy. With the increased use of PSA testing, it has been noted that there has been a gradual downward stage migration (increased incidence of early disease) with the discovery of carcinomas that are possibly not life threatening. Prostate carcinoma thus represents a significant challenge for men’s health. This fact has been recently recognized by the US Congress with the recent introducProstate Cancer – Meeting Clinical Needs by Advanced MRI at Diagnosis and on Follow-Up

Evaluation of the accuracy of dynamic contrast enhanced MRI in the diagnosis of invasive prostate neoplasm using pathological findings

Background: Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy in men and the second leading cause of death in all countries of the world. The exact mechanism of prostate cancer is not known. On the other hand, early detection of prostate cancer can lead to a complete cure. Several clinical experiments including Digital Rectum Examination (DRE), biochemistry such as Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), ...

Automatic Prostate Cancer Segmentation Using Kinetic Analysis in Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI

Background: Dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) provides functional information on the microcirculation in tissues by analyzing the enhancement kinetics which can be used as biomarkers for prostate lesions detection and characterization. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate spatiotemporal patterns of tumors by extracting semi-quantitative as well as w...

PSA Screening in Prostate Cancer

Introduction: Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in Iranian men. PSA(prostate specific antigen) screening is a controversial issue because PSA screening leads to diagnose of patients with low risk prostate cancer who not only do not benefit from treatment but also suffer from complication caused by treatment. On the other hand, without prostate cancer screening, the rate of meta...

Primary prostate solitary neurofibroma without neurofibromatosis-I: a case report and narrative review of the literature

Neurofibroma of the prostate is an extremely rare benign tumor, particularly when it is not associated with neurofibromatosis-I (NF-1). This study aimed to report the case of a 44-year-old man who presented with dysuria for about 4 years. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a mass in the prostate with “target sign” on T2-weighted imaging. The mass was surgically excised, and histopathologic...

Dosimetric and Radiobiological Evaluation of Multiparametric MRI-guided Dose Painting in radiotherapy of Prostate Cancer

Introduction: Radiotherapy is one of the treatment options for locally advanced prostate cancer, however with standard radiation doses it is not always very effective. One of the strategies to improve the efficiency of radiotherapy is increasing the dose. In this study to increase tumor local control rates a new radiotherapy method, known as dose painting (DP) was investigated....
